New Special Edition Ferrari Announced

To celebrate turning 60 here in the states, Ferrari is celebrating the way most car companies do, building special edition cars.

The F60America will be limited to only ten examples, and will be sent to ten lucky owners.  Wealthy owners at that, because each example cost 2.5 million dollars.  According to Ferrari, each and every example is already spoken for.

The car is based off Ferrari's current F12berlinetta, it is also powered by a 6.3 liter V12. The car produces 720hp, 10 less than the F12, and hits 60mph in 3.2 seconds.  Every panel of the body work have been redesigned.  The most distinguishing factor between the two cars, is that the F60 is a convertible, were as the F12 is a coupe. The paint is a direct homage to Ferrari's american racing team's livery.  The throwbacks don't end there, in the cabin the drivers side is in bright red, while the passenger side is in black.  The design for the interior was inspired by Ferrari's classic competition cars.

The car is making its debut this evening, at an anniversary celebration dinner at Beverly Hills City Hall.

My Dream Car

Well at the moment

I say at the moment because it switches every day.  But right now my current dream car is the Pagani Huayra (wire-ra). If I won the lottery, it would be the first thing I bought.  And because its friday, why don't we watch a little TV?  Here is one of my all time favorite TV shows, Top Gear, reviewing my dream car. Enjoy

Jeep sales skyrocket

More good news out of Detroit this week, Jeep is on its way to sell one million vehicles this year.

Chysler group CEO, Sergio Marchionne, talked to reporters January of this year, and projected that Jeep would sell one million vehicles globally this year.  If the first nine months are any indication, that sales projection should be coming true.

As of now Jeep has sold 747,000 vehicles, in the first nine months of this year. (The Detroit New)  Making this the best sales year in the companies history, and besting their sales record last year of 731,565 vehicles.

Jeep has been on a role lately, it is currently building some of the very best off road capable SUV's in the market.  Ever since Fiat, the Italian giant, bought Chrysler, quality has increased in all their vehicles.

Later this year Jeep will be releasing their all new 2015, Jeep Renegade, (the baby Jeep).  Which is directly targeted at millennials, which has proven to be a lucrative demographic.  The introduction of the Renegade should help Jeep nail the one million mark.

The Return of the American Supercar

For Ford, 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the first of four consecutive wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This is to date, one of Ford's greatest racing achievements.

In 1966, Ford set out to build a car the that would not only compete, but destroy the competition.  One company in particular, that Ford wanted to feel its wrath, was Ferrari.  The whole reason Ford wanted to race in the first place, was because Henry Ford II hated Enzo Ferrari.(A bad business deal)  Yep, you've heard that name before on this blog, same guy that called Ferruccio Lamborghini farm trash.  With the help of the late Carol Shelby, Ford built the car that would finally give America its first win in Le Mans' history, the Gt40.

GT40
Gt40
Given this name because, GT stood for grand touring, and the number 40 represented how tall the car was, 40 inches. The car went on to win three more races at Le Mans.

Fast forward almost 40 years later in 2005 Ford released the ford GT  to commemorate the Gt40's birthday.

Now, rumors are floating around that Ford is developing a successor to the Ford GT.   We might get to see the car hit showrooms in 2016. But there is also a chance a race car might be in development as well.  The car would mark the return to Le Mans, for Ford, in over 40 years.

Rumors also suggest that we might see a prototype of the new car at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, witch starts in January of next year.

Fingers crossed.

New Lamborghini Unveiled

Making its debut at the Paris Motor show, and......it's a hybrid......I know I'm surprised too.  But it's true the Lamborghini Asterion concept is in fact, a hybrid.  Yes, the the Toyota Prius, and the new Lamborghini finally have something in common. Both cars produce power from two types of engines, electric and gas.  But that is were the similarities end, thank god. (No offense Prius owners)

Lamborghini is keeping with tradition of naming their cars after bulls.  Asterion is the proper name for minotaur. In greek mythology,  minotaurs are part man, part bull.  The name also plays on the notion of the vehicle being a hybrid, and having two engines, well four kind of.

The four engines combined produce a whopping 897 hp.  The 5.2 liter V-10 engine produces 602 hp by itself.  On top of that, there is an electric motor mounted between the V-10, and the seven speed dual-clutch transmission.  The transmission is located at the back of the car this time around.  There are also two smaller electric motors mounted on the front axil.  The motors send power to each individual front wheel.  All together the electric motors produce 295 hp.  The Asterion has three driving modes, the first is EV. Which, is pure electric mode.  The electric motors in the front two wheels are the only thing driving the car.  The car can run for 31 miles in this mode before it will need to charge its batteries.  The second is Termico, Italian for thermal, in this mode you have the full power of the V-10 engine.  The third and final mode is Ibrido, which is Italian for hybrid.  This Mode gives you all four engines, and the full 897 hp to play with.

This is not the fire breathing super car that we are used to Lamborghini designing.  The Asterion is being built as a luxury hyper gran tour.  The styling of the car, is not the wedge shape of current Lamborghinis.  This car has a taller roof line that allows the seating position to be higher.  The car is built to be comfortable on long trips, and every day driving.  But you have almost 900 hp there if you need it.

Lamborghini has stated that the car is not for sale, and is just a concept.  From experience though, I know that car companies don't usually spend this much effort on concepts unless it's going to production.  We might not see the Asterion on the streets but, I guarantee you that its hybrid technology will make it to one of Lamborghini's future vehicles.
